Kentucky Speleological Society

The goals of the Kentucky Speleological Survey, Inc. are: 
to gather, archive, curate, and distribute cave and karst data of the Commonwealth of Kentucky,
to further the study of cave and karst resources for conservation, research, and scientific exploration, and 
to provide a permanent, non-profit, non-sectarian, cooperative organization that works to establish and nurture a professional atmosphere among individuals and organizations that support the foregoing purposes.

Nashville Grotto

As part of the NSS, the grotto’s mission is to promote safe and responsible caving practices, effective cave and karst management, speleology, and conservation. Our members are bound together by their love of caves and caving and their desire to learn about the underground wilderness and protect it for future generations.

Louisville Grotto

The Louisville Grotto is the local chapter of the National Speleological Society. We are dedicated to cave exploration, education, and conservation. We live by the caver motto, “take nothing but pictures, leaving nothing but footprints, and kill nothing but time.”
We are active in introducing new people to caves and caving.

Greater Cincinnati Grotto

Subject to the conditions and limitations imposed by the Amended Articles of Incorporation and by law,
the purpose of this Grotto shall be:
A. To educate the members and the public, and to promote interest in the study and science of
speleology, and to advance the protection of caves and their natural contents, and to promote
fellowship among those interested therein, by performing as the local representative of the
National Speleological Society in the Greater Cincinnati, Ohio area; and
B. To organize NSS members in the Greater Cincinnati area.

The National Caves Association is a non-profit trade association founded in 1965 by a small group of private show cave owners.  These initial members sought to bring together show cave owners and operators from across the United States to promote the show cave industry to the public, to share information and ideas, and to lobby for legislation favorable to the show cave industry.

Diamond Caverns

The story of Diamond Caverns is one of water, living things, and a vast amount of time. There are three major time periods in the story. First was when the limestone was laid down, second was when the cave passages were carved out by underground streams, and third was when all the beautiful calcite stalactites and stalagmites you see in Diamond Caverns formed, which is still happening today.
